3 reasons why your teen daughter stays in her room

3 reasons why your teen daughter is constantly on her phone or stays in her room all-day

  • boredom

  • feeling crap

  • feeling isolated

These are big and powerful emotions that literally take up all of your teen's thoughts.

Being holed up in their room is their safe zone but all these belittling thoughts are taking them down and making them feel even worse so they haven’t got any space to think about anything including self-care, eating, drinking, looking after themselves, joining in with family activities, etc.

4 ways in which you can help your teen daughter

  • Just let them know that you are there for them whatever they are going through right now. This simple act is very powerful as it lets them know that they are valued, seen and heard without you trying to ‘fix’ them.

  • Focus on the here and now – be conscious in the moment, what is happening right now for your teen? Think about what helps them? What are their favourite hobbies? What do they love to do and is there something you can do together?

  • Plan a day in the near future where you can do this activity together.

  • Have a Mum/daughter afternoon/evening and watch a film together; sit down on the sofa, get your cushions, blankets, popcorn and drinks – just chill out together. If your teen is feeling really low, choose a film for them as even making that simple decision will chuck them over the edge and you will more likely have a meltdown on your hands rather than a fun evening. Make it simple, find a film that either has teens in it or real-life experiences that have been made into a film.

How I can support you to reconnect with your teen daughter

Be Yourself - Just for Teens is a 4 part workshop specifically designed for teen girls to find out how their brain works, why it is making them feel this way and how they can overcome it using simple self-help activities. It’s about giving you back your daughter and giving them the tools to process any fears or anxieties that may arise for them. Ultimately it allows them to feel like they’re in control of their emotions so they can have the life they’ve always wanted

  • These workshops are designed around your teen’s likes and dislikes so they feel more involved and appreciated.

  • There is a questionnaire at the beginning and end to see where they are but the sessions are all about focusing on their strengths. I deliver the workshops in an intuitive and interactive way that your teen can relate in a way that they have possibly never done before.

  • They will feel listened to and accepted for who they are with no questions asked.

  • There will be lots of fun activities to make the topics easier to absorb so your teen can make the changes they need to make in their life. The bedrock of the workshops is for your teen to learn new ways so they can help themselves whilst having a laugh. It’s about giving them back the control to be in charge of their feelings so they can live the life they want.
